The Portage County Tournament takes place Jan. 3 and is the county’s biggest regular-season wrestling event with every area program participating.
This year’s tournament includes five PCT champions from a year ago: Dylan Benedum (Mogadore), Johnny Bollinger (Streetsboro), Gavin Edwards (Roosevelt), Dominic Kemble (Southeast) and Rocco Wrobel (Crestwood). It also includes a state champion, the Rockets’ Jarreau Walker, who didn’t compete in last year’s PCT.

In the team standings, Rootstown looks to repeat as PCT champion. The Rovers have won the vast majority of PCT titles in recent years. Aurora, which disrupted Rootstown’s streak in 2024, is a little hard to predict with standouts like Drake Brasiel, Michael Kennedy and Nick Turba not competing. Streetsboro, a top-three finisher in each of the last four years, is certainly a leading contender led by its powerful lightweights. Host Garfield, Roosevelt and young Southeast can’t be ignored, either.
We’ll have live updates from Garrettsville throughout the afternoon:

Avery Conroy adds an exclamation point for Streetsboro
There’s your championship moment for the Streetsboro Rockets. Crestwood’s Tye Berquist the impressive double and bridge to take an 11-1 lead midway through the second period. Streetsboro’s Avery Conroy battles back with an escape, shot and then the cradle. What a cradle it was (video soon to come) as Conroy the remarkable comeback from an 11-1 deficit to pin in 3:46.
That should cap the title for the Rockets.
Streetsboro starting to run away with the team title
The Rockets have had an amazing final round. Four championships already, including Cameron Rogowski and Jerry Benci going back-to-back at 150 and 157, respectively. Add on three third-place winners and three fifth-place winners and Streetsboro has a healthy 217-190.5 lead over second-place Crestwood.
Luke Kaufman wins 138 title
Maybe the best final of the day as Garfield’s Luke Kaufman and Southeast’s Trevor Osborne were scoreless before Kaufman managed the reversal in the third period.
A 2-0 final in favor of Kaufman as he wins the PCT title on his home mat. Much more to come from that one.
Crestwood, Streetsboro continue to pick up points at 126
Crestwood’s Rocco Wrobel repeats as PCT champion, this time at 126. He was dominant as can be, amassing 16 points in just over two-and-a-half minutes, before ultimately landing the pin in 2:48. But the Red Devils’ ability to pick up points on the Rockets is limited by Brayden Kittle’s emphatic tech fall in his third-place match.
Streetsboro leads Crestwood, 201-179.5.
Southeast is third with 159 points.
Jarreau Walker expands Streetsboro’s lead with title at 120
The Rockets needed their lightweights to perform. They certainly have. Johnny Bollinger won the title with a pin at 106. Jayden Kittle got a tech fall in his 113 third-place match. And now Jarreau Walker the tech fall for the 120 title. That’s 16 big points for Streetsboro, which now leads 197.5-173.5 over Crestwood.
Damian Kemble wins 113 title
I’ve talked about Southeast’s remarkable freshman class before. Well, here we go. That’s freshman Damian Kemble winning the 113 title in authoritative fashion.
Johnny Bollinger repeats as champion to begin finals
We’ll start finals with 106. Streetsboro’s Johnny Bollinger with a takedown after a pretty solid scramble with Southeast’s Nick Coffman. Upon 3-0 after a period, Bollinger bowls Coffman down in the second for another takedown. He adds another early in the third en route to a pin as Bollinger wins his second straight PCT title at 106.
Quick break before finals
Super close between Streetsboro (179.5) and Crestwood (173.5) entering finals. Both programs have five wrestling for first place. The Rockets have four wrestling for third and the Red Devils have three. And both have four wrestling for fifth place.
Southeast (3rd, 153) actually has the most wrestlers competing for first (six) but only has a combined two wrestlers competing in the third- and fifth-place matches, which will hurt the Pirates’ title odds.

Team race is a fun watch
After the Rovers have dominated the PCT in recent years, we might see a new winner in 2026!
Crestwood (152.5), Streetsboro (152) and Southeast (146) are in an incredibly tight race in the team standings.
The Pirates have six in the finals. The Red Devils and Rockets have five apiece but both have far more alive in the consolation brackets than Southeast.
The finals include a number of huge matchups as it relates to the team standings. Literally, the first three weight classes will feature a Southeast-Streetsboro, Crestwood-Southeast and Crestwood-Streetsboro battle!

Semifinals underway
Semifinals have begun here in Garrettsville.
Streetsboro’s Johnny Bollinger and Southeast’s Nick Coffman both dominant in their semifinals. That will be your 106-pound title match.
Crestwood’s Levi Daniels wins a tight semifinal at 113 against Streetsboro’s Jayden Kittle, scoring the lone four points of the match in the third period. He started with an early escape, then got the clinching takedown with 21 seconds remaining. He’ll face Southeast’s Damian Kemble in the finals.
At 120, Streetsboro’s Jarreau Walker is on a revenge tour after a tough end to his weekend in Brecksville. He wins his quarterfinal and semifinal matchups by a combined score of 35-4 and will face Crestwood’s Tyler Devlin in the finals.
Quite a rally from Mogadore’s Caileb Tomkins at 126. Down 16-5, he rallies with a pin midway through the third period to top Rootstown’s Mason King. He’ll face Crestwood’s Rocco Wrobel in the finals.
At 132, Rootstown’s Ayden Moyer managed to stay on top of Field’s AJ Freudeman for the entire second period. But Freudeman, back to neutral to start the third, dominated the final period, landing an early single and scoring plenty of mat points from there for a 9-0 win. He’ll face Southeast’s Dominic Kemble in the finals.
Buoyed by that strong freshman class, the Pirates will likely be one of the most improved teams in the standings this year. Trevor Osborne at 138 is Southeast’s fourth finalist. Four finalists in the first six weight classes. That’s awfully impressive. He’ll face Garfield’s Luke Kaufman in the finals.
Make it five finalists in the first seven weight classes for Southeast as freshman Gavin Cantera advances to the finals in 144, where he’ll face Rootstown’s Nate Marzec.
Maybe one of the better semifinals of the day as Garfield’s Keaton Ellison holds off Rootstown’s Carson Saltsman for the 4-2 decision at 150. He’ll face Streetsboro’s Cameron Rogowski in the finals.
Another great semifinal at 190, by the way, as Ravenna’s Bradley Davis and Crestwood’s Michael Berquist trade reversals. It was a thrilling match, but down 5-3, Davis had to shoot in the third period and Berquist did a great job staying low and compact for the 9-4 win.
