Police in Columbus and Hilliard are investigating separate series of car break-ins that left dozens of vehicles with shattered windows and stolen property in the early hours of June 15.
At least 35 cars were broken into in the area of Heritage Preserve apartments, said Jarrod Clay, a community relations administrator for Hilliard. The break-ins occurred both on the complex property and in the area around it. The apartment community is located at Tanager Lane and Blue Heron Drive, just off of Muir Parkway.
Clay said the vehicles’ windows were smashed, and some of the items stolen included wallets and credit cards. Most of the cars only had their windows smashed in, and nothing was stolen, said Clay.
The investigation into the break-ins is ongoing, said Clay. Police have not identified any suspects. Anyone with information can contact Hilliard police at policeinfo@hilliardohio.gov. Detectives are looking for doorbell or security video footage of the break-ins.
Columbus police also investigating vehicle break-ins on West Side
In a separate case, Columbus police are investigating multiple vehicle break-ins early on June 15 on the city’s West Side.
Officers were dispatched at around 6 a.m. June 15 to Woodsboro Drive for a report of multiple car break-ins, according to Nicole Jaros, a Columbus police spokesperson. Jaros said she didn’t have an exact number of vehicles that were broken into, but there are 36 victims listed in the incident report.
The majority of vehicles had their windows smashed, said Jaros, but several victims also reported property being taken from their vehicles.
No suspects have been identified, Jaros said.
