Two state powers collide Tuesday, Oct. 28 when Walsh Jesuit (13-6-1) and Perrysburg (15-1-2) in a Division I, Region 1 semifinal at North Royalton High School.
The winner plays Strongsville (14-3-3) on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Byers Field in Parma. The Mustangs beat Medina 3-1 on the other side of the bracket.

Perrysburg extends its lead against Walsh Jesuit
Elyza Byrd sent a bender into the frame on a corner kick on the right. Zoe Crysler got a right hand on it, but it was too strong to stop. It’s Perrysburg 2-0 with 4:44 left.
Walsh Jesuit continues to pick up the pace against Perrysburg
The Warriors are showing some urgency but it remains Perrysburg 1-0. Walsh holds a 6-4 edge on shots on goal and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, but can’t find the equalizer. Yellow Jackets up with 16:59 left.
Perrysburg defense holds strong against Walsh Jesuit
The Warriors are playing with pace but keeper Tori Trzcinski has been up to the task. Quinn Luecke had Trzcinski reeling backward toward net but the keeper was able to get a paw on the ball and it bounced off both the crossbar and right post and out of the way. Mere seconds later the junior had to make another unbelievable save to keep Walsh off the board. It’s 1-0 Perrysburg with 28:09 left.

Walsh Jesuit-Perrysburg pace has quickened
As we close in on the last 25 percent of the first half, the referees are letting physical play go. It’s led to some entertaining challenges. The Yellow Jackets shots on goal advantage but the Warriors have a 3-0 edge on corner kicks. Perrysburg had a chance on a free kick from 26 yards out, but missed. It’s 1-0 Yellow Jackets with 9:57 left before the break.
Second 10 minutes all Perrysburg vs. Walsh Jesuit
As one might expect London Longoria’s goal 11 minutes in has kickstarted the Yellow Jackets. The second 10 minutes have been all Perrysburg, which has peppered keeper Zoe Crysler twice and really pushed the pace for the Yellow Jackets.
Mariah Flenoury had the best opportunity for Walsh, but her left-footed shot went off the far post. It’s 1-0 Perrysburg with 19:15 left in the first half.
Perrysburg strikes first against Walsh Jesuit
The Yellow Jackets showed exactly why they’re so dangerous as Emma Ogdahl curled around a defender and fed London Longoria on the right from 12 yards out. Longoria went top shelf. It’s 1-0 Perrysburg with 28:58 left in the first half.
Walsh Jesuit controlling the early portion of things
As you might expect after a 110-minute drive with time added on due to bus troubles, the Yellow Jackets are a bit out of sorts. The Warriors have two shots and corner kick early and have controlled the pace the first 10 minutes.
Walsh is pinching the Perrysburg offense in, which is leaving things wide open for the Warriors. It’s scoreless with 30:32 left in the first half.
Perrysburg-Walsh Jesuit start delayed
Perrysburg had bus troubles and showed up to North Royalton 20 minutes before start time. The game is expected to begin around 7:20-7:25 thanks to Elyria High School, which provided a bus to the Yellow Jackets so they could finish the trek.

The rich history of Walsh Jesuit and Perrysburg soccer
The Warriors are trying to reach the state semifinals for the 20th time in program history and the third season in row. They’ve won titles in 2023, 2012-16, 2010, 2006, 2004 and 2000-01 and finished second in 2021 and 2024.
Perrysburg won a title in 2012 and finished second in 2017. These two played Sept. 10 at Sports Force in Cedar Point. Perrysburg won 2-1.
The two met last season in a Division I state semifinal. Walsh won 4-0.

The Yellow Jackets have a slew of scorers in Emma Ogdahl (19 goals, nine assists), Camille Francis (17 goals, six assists), Sophie Mitchell (13 goals, 12 assists), Lauren McConnachie (11 goals, 14 assists), Adyson Brown (10 goals, nine assists), London Langoria (seven goals, six assists) and Elyza Bryd (four goals, nine assists). Keeper Tori Trzcinski (75 saves) has seven shutouts.

The Warriors have a trifecta of scores in Abby Witkiewicz (11 goals, three assists), Mariah Flenoury (seven goals, four assists) and Lauren Sibel (four goals, two assists). Keeper Zoe Chrysler has nine shutouts.
How Walsh Jesuit/Perrysburg made a Division I, Region 1 semifinal
Walsh beat Euclid 9-0 and Berea-Midpark 4-1 to win the Northeast 5 District. Perrysburg beat Brunswick 5-0 to claim the Northeast 1 District.
