Ohio launches new app to track driving hours for learners | Getting There

Gone are the days of recording your teenager’s driving hours in a notebook, in your phone’s notes or just in your head. The Ohio Traffic Safety Office now has an app that tracks a driver’s hours and gives them feedback and tips.

The app, RoadReady Ohio, requires a student account and a driving supervisor account. The driving supervisor’s phone records the student’s drive time and data, according to the app’s website.

The app will score each driving session in areas like braking, acceleration, speed, and turning, according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Once the driver has all 50 of their required hours, you can download an affidavit report from the app to fill out and have notarized before bringing it to the driver’s test.

This app won’t only be useful for high schoolers; any driver under 21, or any driver applying for a nonrenewable or nontransferable license, now has to have 50 practice hours to get their license after state law changed in 2025.

These drivers will also need 24 hours of classroom or online driving instruction and eight hours behind the wheel with a licensed instructor to get their license.

Here are some ODOT construction projects to look out for this week with your learning driver.
