Week 1 of OHSSA high school football is here with several area teams kicking off early on Thursday, Aug. 20.
The rest of the area is back on the gridiron for Friday night lights. Before kickoff, check out the three games reporter Jacob Shondel highlighted for Week 1.

OHSAA scores, updates from Week 1 of Ohio high school football season
Thursday, Aug. 20
Conotton Valley 46, Tuscarawas Central Catholic 12
The Rockets got off to a fast start, scoring 12 points in the first quarter and 26 in the second to hold a 38-6 halftime lead. Conotton Valley was held to one scoring drive in the second half, outscoring the Saints 8-6 over the final 24 minutes. The Rockets will remain on the road in Week 2, travelling to Bishop Rosecrans. The Saints will open their road schedule as well, taking on Fisher Catholic.
Fairless 44, Sandy Valley 6
In the Cardinals first game under head coach Torrance Carle, Sandy Valley was defeated in its season opener 44-6. Fairless put up 20 points in the opening quarter to the Cardinals 6 and never looked back. The Falcons built a 37-6 lead at halftime; however, was held to seven second half points. Sandy Valley will go on the road next week, taking on Norton. The Falcons will host Waynedale in Week 2.
