North Union will add a “26” to their softball banner after clinching a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division championship.
It is the program’s first since winning back-to-back crowns in 2021 and 2022.
The Wildcats beat Northwestern 3-2 after scoring two in the seventh inning to break up a 1-1 tie. Leah Cox struck out 10, walked two and allowed four hits. Kailin McElroy doubled and singled. Kale Keigley singled three times.
In a 7-3 victory over Northwestern, Cox allowed five hits, five walks and four strikeouts plus hit a home run and produced four RBIs. Emma McElroy doubled.
In the clincher, North Union topped Bellefontaine 10-0 in five innings to move its record to 19-6 overall and 14-2 in the Mad River. Cox pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and a walk, plus hit a double and single. Kennedy Harrah tripled and singled, and Emma McElroy doubled and singled, and Rylee Fox singled twice.
