White Castle will have a new slider on its menu starting June 15 as the Columbus-based chain says it is responding to customer demand for the menu refresh.
Here’s what White Castle says customers can expect from the new menu item and a deal to accompany the launch.
White Castle announces new veggie slider as permanent menu item
The chain announced this week it will roll out the Southwest Veggie Slider nationwide as a permanent menu fixture starting June 15 following customer feedback and research into nonmeat options. Prices start at $2.49,
“Our Cravers have been pretty vocal about wanting an alternative to traditional meat sliders that doesn’t compromise on flavor,” Jamie Richardson, chief marketing officer, said in a release. “That prompted our menu innovation team to prioritize finding a craveable alternative, and we believe the Southwest Veggie Slider delivers on that in a big way.”
The new slider features a veggie patty made from sweet potatoes, black beans, corn, red bell peppers, onions and carrots, coated in a crispy brown rice crust. It’s seasoned with chipotle and barbecue flavors and topped with jalapeño cheese on a traditional slider bun.
The company ultimately chose a veggie patty from Dr. Praeger’s, a brand known for plant-based foods, as the base. The addition gives White Castle a permanent plant-based option alongside its beef, chicken and fish sliders.
To promote the launch, White Castle says rewards members can get a $5 combo in July that includes two veggie sliders, fries and a drink. The deal runs July 1–31.
