858K for what?
Re “CMHA’s top leader stands to make four times what he started at in 2010. Is his innovative model worth it?” June 7: Kudos to the Dispatch for the report on salaries of executives at the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority.
It is astonishing to learn that CMHA’s top executive earned $858,000 last year, almost $300,000 more than any housing authority leader in the nation.
To put that figure in perspective, the president of the United States earns $400,000 and the governor of Ohio earns $171,059. These are positions with far greater responsibilities and accountability.
At the same time, Columbus officials are considering substantial raises for the mayor and city council members. Taken together, these issues demonstrate a troubling pattern: When it comes to spending public money, our local leaders appear increasingly out of touch with the harsh economic reality facing the people they are supposed to serve.
