New Lexington woman dies from injuries three days after Perry County crash

LANCASTER — One person has died after a three-vehicle crash in Perry County.

The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash at 4:37 p.m. June 2 on Ohio 13 near County Road 70.

Stephanie Padilla, 43, of New Lexington, and William Poling, 27, of New Lexington, were stopped in traffic southbound on Ohio 13, driving a 2013 Honda Civic and a 2017 Ford Fiesta, respectively.

Caden Butkus, 20, of New Straitsville, was driving a 2019 Ram truck southbound on Ohio 13 before striking the rear of Padilla’s vehicle, causing it to veer onto the right side of the roadway. Butkus then struck the rear of Poling’s vehicle, which came to a rest on the west berm, whereas Butkus’ vehicle veered off into a ditch on the right side of the roadway, according to the patrol.

Padilla was transported to Somerset Genesis before being transported to Grant Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased three days later, on June 5, as a result of the crash. Butkus and Poling were treated on scene for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
