New internet provider Welo launches in central Ohio with lifetime price

A new internet provider has launched in central Ohio, promising potential customers one price for life.

Available in Columbus and its surrounding suburbs as of Feb. 26, Welo is a new fiber-powered internet provider that says it will offer a guaranteed lifetime price for customers who stick with it, according to a Welo press release. The company is owned by Canada-based Cogeco Communications Inc., a leading telecommunications provider with subscribers across 13 U.S. states.

Welo’s standard prices will be $45 a month for a 300 megabits per second, or Mbps, which represents how much data can be transferred in one second. A higher Mbps means a faster connection.

A 600-Mbps plan will be $50 a month and a 1,000 Mbps or 1-gigabyte per second will be $55 per month, according to a company spokesperson.

The provider – whose name is derived from “We Love” – says its internet can be activated in “a few minutes” online, with no contracts involved in the sign-up process, according to the release.

“Today, home internet services finally stop being a headache and become what they should have been all along: simply, reliable and affordable,” the release states. “We know people are tired of over-complicated internet experiences, so we created Welo to change it.”

In celebration of its launch, Welo is giving its first 1,000 customers exclusive rates $20 off its standard prices, which the provider promises will also “stay locked in forever,” according to the release.

That means $25 a month for the 300 Mbps plan; $30 a month for the 600 Mbps plan; and $35 a month for the 1-gigabyte plan.

In 2025, the average internet speed across the country was 214 Mbps, with Ohio’s specific average at just over 188 Mbps, according to a report from online internet assessment tool TestMySpeed.

The press release and Welo’s website don’t specify the standard pricing for those who sign up after the first 1,000 discounted customers.

There’s a money-back guarantee if a Welo customer isn’t satisfied with their internet within 60 days, as well as a referral program that awards both the existing customer and their referred friend a $100 account credit, according to the release.
