MASSILLON – A trio of city locations are open this week as cooling stations for anyone who needs some time to chill.
The city announced the cool-down spots on its Facebook page on the evening of June 29.
The Massillon Recreation Center, 505 Erie St. N, is available throughout the week. Cooling hours run from noon to 7 p.m. June 30 through July 3.
The Rec Center will be closed on July 4 for the holiday. It will be open from noon to 5 p.m. July 5.
The Salvation Army of Massillon, 315 Sixth St. NE, is opening its doors from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 through July 3. The facility is closed from noon to 1 p.m. each day.
The Massillon Public Library, 208 Lincoln Way E, is open for cooling during normal business hours, which run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 30 through July 2. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 3.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Stark County from June 30 through July 3, with high temperatures reaching the mid-90s and little to no rainfall. The July 4 forecast calls for a high of around 90 degrees with a chance of rain.
Weather officials said the heat index will rise well into the 100s during the high temperature times.
The city of Canton and the Stark Library also have opened a series of cooling stations.
