Man charged in Suffield Twp. motorcycle crash that killed woman

A Trumbull County man was indicted on charges related to the death of his passenger in a motorcycle crash in October in Suffield Township.

Kyle D. Lallman, 30, faces charges of second- and third-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of 31-year-old Dakoda Church of Atwater.

Lallman also faces fourth-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, two misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to control.

The indictment was filed March 26 in Portage County Common Pleas Court and a warrant issued for Lallman’s arrest.

Court records show a Warren address for Lallman, but an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report says Lallman was living with Church at the time of the Oct. 13 crash.

According to the report, Lallman was operating a 2015 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle eastbound on U.S. Route 224 near Martin Road when a trooper clocked the motorcycle at 77 mph in a 55 mph zone about 9:30 p.m.

The crash report says the motorcycle didn’t stop and attempted a left turn northbound onto Rhodes Avenue. The trooper reported that the motorcycle was found lying on the right side of the road with the two riders lying in the middle of the road.

Neither was wearing a helmet, according to the report.

Lallman subsequently was identified as the driver. Suffield EMS took Church to Summa Akron City Hospital with a life-threatening head injury. Lallman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, including a head laceration, road rash on his hands and a fractured finger.

According to the report, Church was listed in critical condition the next day and was still unresponsive on Oct. 31. She died Nov. 4.

Troopers reported that Lallman said he did not immediately realize he was being pursued, and once he did, he turned onto Rhodes so he could stop off the highway. The trooper reported seeing the motorcycle’s brake lights as it turned left. The report estimates the motorcycle was traveling about 15 mph at the time of the crash.

Lallman voluntarily provided a blood sample. It came back positive for THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to the report.
