Mail carrier robbed at gunpoint Monday by masked suspects in Summit Lake

Akron Police are investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred Dec. 29 involving a U.S. Postal Service worker in Summit Lake, Lt. Michael Murphy said in a statement.

Police responded to reports that the Postal Service employee had been robbed while delivering mail in the 200 block of West Long Street. The victim was reportedly approached on foot by three unknown suspects, one of whom brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s property during the encounter, Murphy said.

The three suspects took multiple items and later fled the area in a gray SUV, that was subsequently found unoccupied in Cleveland.

The suspects are three men believed to be in their 20s who were wearing masks and hoodies, Murphy reported.

Akron police are working with the United States Postal Inspection Service as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects.
