LOUISVILLE ‒ A back-to-school classic returns to Stark County, with the 2025 Constitution Week Festival in Louisville.

The celebration starts Sept. 14 and ends Sept. 21.
Here is the schedule of activities:
There also will be a movie night on The Green Space on East Main Street in downtown Louisville on Sept. 18. At dusk, a screening of the new PBS film “The American Constitution” will be shown. The free event will include a live Q&A with the director.
What is Constitution Day?
Louisville is known as “Constitution Town” for the significant role it played in helping to commemorate the signing of the U.S Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.
How so? The Louisville Constitution Committee website has the history, and it started with Olga T. Weber, a resident and mother, who didn’t want people to forget their rights and freedoms.
In 1951, she started to hand out copies of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, flag booklets and other leaflets to local schools, churches and other organizations.
Then she started with the city’s first Constitution Day celebration after meeting with Mayor Gerald Romary and City Council. Formation of the Constitution Committee followed.
By April 1953, Weber successfully had the Ohio General Assembly proclaim Sept. 17 as a statewide Constitution Day. U.S. Congress followed by creating Constitution Week, signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In 1957, Louisville City Council declared the city as “Constitution Town” and the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society donated four historical markers to make it official.
