Incumbent Hamilton County Commissioner Stephanie Summerow Dumas will debate challengers Meeka Owens and Herman Najoli on April 16 in a one-hour forum that could shape both the May 5 primary and the future direction of county government. The debate, hosted by The Enquirer and 91.7 WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition, begins at 7 p.m. at Cincinnati Public Radio, 2117 Dana Avenue. Tickets are sold out.
How to watch
Enquirer opinion editor Kevin Aldridge and Cincinnati Edition host Lucy May will moderate the hourlong event. The debate will be livestreamed in the player above and on the Enquirer’s YouTube channel and WVXU.org.
Three candidates, one seat
Dumas enters as the incumbent. Elected in 2018, she became the first Black Hamilton County commissioner after serving as mayor of Forest Park.
Owens represents a newer generation of leadership. An Avondale native, she has served on Cincinnati City Council since 2022 and chairs the Climate, Environment and Infrastructure Committee.
Najoli brings the perspective of an educator and immigrant. A native of Kenya who moved to Cincinnati in 2007, he previously ran for county commissioner in 2020 and for mayor in 2021.
