The size 9 fits
Re “Ohio Republicans aren’t the racists Democrats want you to believe we are” by Will Hinman, May 21: There’s nothing I enjoy more with my morning generic Fruit Loops – checked the prices of groceries lately? – than yet another White Republican whining and playing the victim about racism.
Hey Will, last time I checked, Democrats have not accused American Haitians of eating dogs and cats and AMERICAN – Muslim and otherwise – Somalis of being trash, American citizens of being illegal and the countries of each of those people, and more, as s—holes.
This is your party, Will. Own it and stop whining that you are being called racists. Maybe talk to your upper echelon MAGA “leaders” and ask them to stop saying horrible racist things and acting on them. Then maybe people won’t call you what you act like.
Perhaps utilize a few Q-tips and listen closer to the sentiments of the current GOP. Maybe look up the word “delusional” as well. Because your denial of reality is rampant, Will. As is your deplorable sense of empathy. If the shoe fits…

Listen to the middle
Re “Democrats can’t fix America even if they take the House,” May 22: The Dispatch opinion page is too often neglectful of the voters in the middle. So I was happy to read Marty Kress‘ guest column calling for bipartisan coalitions to look for solutions to immigration reform, budget priorities, the decline in respect for law and federal law-enforcement agencies, environmental regulation and the like.
The Democrats are held hostage to far-left progressives, and the Republicans to their far-right MAGA influencers. While I might want more progressive reforms, and a Republican might want a more conservative federal government, historically America has been best led from the middle.
Our experience since 2017 has shown how disastrous governing from the extremes can be. Now is the time to listen respectfully to all citizens’ voices and adopt government policies that are broadly acceptable to the voters in the center.
