Lionel Richie postpones Columbus concert due to health concerns

Fans hoping to see Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire in Columbus this weekend will have to wait.

Richie has postponed his June 27 concert at the Schottenstein Center after doctors advised him to rest and return to full health, according to a statement shared June 25 on the Schottenstein Center’s Facebook page.

“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH,” the statement said.

“Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.”

The statement said Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are expected to resume the “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour on June 30 in Pittsburgh. Rescheduled dates for the Chicago and Columbus concerts will be announced at a later time.

David Redelberger, director of communications for the Schottenstein Center, told The Dispatch there was “no additional comment.”

The postponement comes two days after Richie ended the opening night of the tour early in St. Paul, Minnesota, after telling the audience he was feeling dizzy. Multiple media outlets reported he was taken to a hospital as a precaution before doctors recommended he rest.

Columbus’ June 27 concert was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center. Fans are encouraged to keep their tickets while they wait for information about a rescheduled date.
