Lindsey hosts annual Sunflower Festival

LINDSEY – The Lindsey Sunflower and Homecoming Festival was held at W.C. Miller Park on July 26.

The Suns Flower farm partnered for the event, although their blooms are not expected until Aug. 1 due to a late season. There was an open house at Sandusky County Parks District’s Creek Bend Farm, a book signing at Lindsey Trinity Church and events at the fire house, along with tours at the Old School House. A comfort station was provided by Lindsey Trinity Church.

There were 30 vendors in the Vendor Village, multiple non-profit organizations, and 13 food trucks on the grounds.

There was a baby and toddler contest, along with a royalty contest which brought out tots in their best sunflower garb. Other events included a live animal display, a chainsaw carving demonstration, a cornhole tournament, a K-9 demonstration from the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department, a youth race and an adult 5K race. Other activities were also available such as small train rides, kids play areas, kiddie tractor pulls, a house decorating contest, ax throwing, a cake walk, bingo and a beer garden.

Entertainment was provided by the Northcoast Tempo, Nick Foos and the HeyRyde Band.

The Festival Royalty winners were Queen Sage McGrady, Princess Kinslee Bowen, Prince Carter Kehres, Jr. Princess Vanellope Thomas and Jr. Prince Matthew Reiselt.

The Baby Contest winners were: Itty Bitty Miss Blossom, 0 to 12 months — Kaylyn Mullins; Itty Bitty Mr. Sprout, 0 to 12 months — Lincoln Smith; Mini Miss Sunflower, 12 to 18 months — Kamyah Glick; Mini Mr. Sunflower, 12 to 18 months — Hayden Childers; Little Miss Sunflower, 18 to 36 months — Evelynn Turner; Little Mr. Sunflower, 18 to 36 months — Thurman Henning; Jr. Miss Sunflower, 3 to 5 years — Mollie Henning; and Jr. Mr. Sunflower, 3 to 5 years — Kyzer Carter.
