Landon Rich rushed for four touchdowns and Calvin Lipstraw tossed two scoring passes Friday as Woodmore remained unbeaten with a 42-6 victory over Lakota in the Sanduksy Bay Conference River Division.
Rich rushed for the Wildcats’ first three scores and added a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
“He has a chip on his shoulder,” Woodmore coach Scott Stecher said. “He’s a heck of an athlete. He runs angry. He’s got good vision and he’s fast.”
Stecher said Rich hasn’t forgot not being able to earn first-team status in the conference, despite 1,8000 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. Michael Seeger caught a touchdown for a 28-6 lead late in the first half and Wesley Kayser added a scoring catch in the third quarter.
“He doesn’t get excited,” Stecher said of Lipstraw. “He doesn’t get too low. He’s focused. You can’t get him to laugh sometimes. He completed 10 of 11 passes for 200 yards. Some of my friends are lie, ‘Are you OK?’”
Woodmore didn’t allow a touchdown on defense as Nate Griggson returned a kickoff for a long score for the Raiders’ points. Lakota (3-1) started the season with three wins as well.
“We’ve got a new system,” Stecher said. “They love the system. Guys fly around and we trust each other. We switch from a three-front to a four-front and the (defensive backs) can play more freely. Our pursuit is way better.”
Raiders quarterback Jalen Wagner left early in the game with an injury.
Stecher hopes the Wildcats take a cue from Lipstraw and remain even keel. He doesn’t want them to get ahead of themselves.
“It was treated as a rivalry game,” he said. “We built on our confidence and came together as a team, having fun. It has more meaning because they’re playing for each other. We’re blessed. God puts you where he wants you, when he wants you.”
