The Akron Zoo is closed Sunday, May 3 due to a bomb threat received in the morning.
At around 10:50 a.m. Sunday, the Akron Zoo received the bomb threat, according to a media release sent by the zoo.
“This is consistent with other zoos receiving similar threats in past days,” zoo officials stated in the media release. “The safety of all zoo employees, visitors and animals is top priority.”
Following the threat the zoo was evacuated and emergency management procedures were implemented. Akron police and fire were on the scene at the zoo assessing the situation.
The zoo did not provide a re-opening time or date as of 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
