Lane restrictions set for Main Street
ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville has announced lane restrictions for Main Street for two days starting June 16, from Fourth to Eighth streets for sewer inspection and maintenance. Delays should be expected.
Muskingum 250 events planned
ZANESVILLE − Muskingum 250 has two upcoming events. Jay Frey will have a presentation on the early history of Wheeling and Fort Henry from 6 to 7 p.m. June 18, at the Dresden Branch Library, 816 Main St. A screening of “Johnny Tremain” will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 27, at Elson Hall of Ohio University Zanesville, 1425 Newark Road. Blood drives scheduled
ZANESVILLE − American Red Cross blood drives are planned for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 17 and 23, at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 20, at Cornerstone Full Gospel Church in Duncan Falls, noon to 6 p.m. June 24, at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors and noon to 6 p.m. June 24, at the Dresden United Methodist Church. Shaw Brothers performing June 24
NEW CONCORD − Folk and American music will be highlighted when the Shaw Brothers perform at 7 p.m. June 24, at New Concord Village Park, 77 W. Main St. The performance is part of the Celebrate New Concord, the annual summer concert series. Rain location is the New Concord United Methodist Church, 20 E. High St.
Funding awarded for broadband expansion
COLUMBUS − BroadbandOhio recently awarded $23.7 million to expand broadband access by reimbursing internet service providers for infrastructure costs via the Broadband Pole Replacement and Undergrounding Program. This includes more than $3 million to Charter Communications for work in Muskingum, Perry, Morgan and other counties.
EPA awards recycling grants
COLUMBUS − The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded Recycle Ohio Grants to 14 governments, businesses, schools and non-profit agencies in Southeast Ohio. This includes $10,000 to the Village of Matla and $9,779 to the Village of Roseville for source reduction equipment.
Students receive Geis scholarships
ZANESVILLE − The Katherine B. Geis Musical Education Fund recently awarded $80,000 in scholarships and grants in Muskingum County. This includes $7,500 to Joseph Barnhouse of John Glenn High School, Rachelle Snyder of West Muskingum High School and Matthew Baldwin of Zanesville High School. Receiving $7,000 scholarships were Theoren Chevalier and Abby Cox of Philo High School, Lucas Ruetz of West Muskingum High School and Truett Howell of Zanesville Christian High School.
Receiving $3,000 scholarships were Bailey Paskell and Gaige Durant of Maysville High School and Colleen Piccone of Philo High School. And $1,000 scholarship were awarded to Graci Kelley of John Glenn High School and Marlee Lawson of Maysville High School,
Additionally, the Zanesville Memorial Band received $3,000 for its summer concert series and the Zanesville Civic Chorus received a combined $15,500 for two concerts.
Molly Dunn takes on new role with Muskingum U
NEW CONCORD − Molly Dunn has been named the inaugural associate vice president for external engagement at Muskingum University in New Concord. In her new role she will lead university-wide efforts to expand Muskingum’s impact across the region by cultivating cross-sector partnerships, aligning academic programs with workforce needs and strengthening early talent pipelines. She will also facilitate the university’s government relations strategy, advocating for policies that increase access, affordability and educational opportunity at the local, state and federal levels. Dunn was previously the executive director of the college’s Impact Center.
Meetings
● Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 23, at the administrative center, 400 Richards Road to accept the resignations and consider the possible employment of personnel.
● The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Board will meet at 10 a.m. June 18, at the Welcome Center, 205 N. Fifth St.
