Input sought on city park improvement plan

A city park improvement plan has been created by the City of Cambridge and the Cambridge Park Board, in collaboration with Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association. It includes prospective enhancements to the pond, a floating dock concept, updated trail systems, playground upgrades, a new pavilion, and upgraded infrastructure projects.

Public comments are needed to help secure grant funding and a community session has been planed for 4:30 p.m. June 1, at the city administration building.

Grant received for Pisgah Road resurfacing

Guernsey County will receive a state grant of $283,750 for Pisgah Road project in Quaker City. The roadwork will consist of the resurfacing of approximately 3,000 linear feet of Pisgah Road and the paving of approximately 2,100 linear feet of roadway that is currently gravel.

These improvements are needed to accommodate an increase in tourism traffic to The Farm at Old World Garden located at 65780 Pisgah Road. The project will create up to five jobs and the grant is from the Ohio Department of Development.

The Farm at Old World Garden is a 46-acre, privately-owned farm that includes an Airbnb, variety of gardens, hiking trails, multiple firepits, party barn, cabins, outdoor kitchen, pizza oven and Argentinian grill and bar area.

Road closure for culvert replacement

Broadhead Road will be closed between Rocky Fork Road and Irish Ridge Road daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 4-8, for culvert replacement. The location of the closure will change as crews move along the route.

Bluegrass show is May 8

Authentic Unlimited, blends rich harmonies with skillful instrumentation to create a timeless and innovative sound, will perform May 8, at the Pennyroyal Opera House. The band is comprised of seasoned musicians, including former members of the legendary Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.

Hillbilly Tradition Bluegrass will be the opening band. The kitchen and doors open at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for those age 13 and older.

Grant opportunities for nonprofits

Community Foundations is accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations serving Guernsey County in the areas of cultural and economic development. The grants are made possible through the John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Fund.

Applications will be accepted through May 29. An advisory committee of community representatives in Guernsey County will assists with grant recommendations. Historically, grant awards rarely exceed $5,000. Nonprofits interested in applying can visit http://cbusfdn.org/regionalfunds.

● The Guernsey County Children Services Board will meet at 1 p.m. May 4, 2026, at the Children Services complex.

● Guernsey County Port Authority will meet at 9 a.m. May 6, at the office of the Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation.

● Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation will meet at 8 a.m. May 8, at the County Administration Building.

● Guernsey County Planning Commission will meet at 9 a.m. May 8, at the County Administration Building.

● Cambridge City Schools Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. May 18, at the intermediate school. A reception for retiring employees will be at 5 p.m.

● East Guernsey Local School Board will meet at 6 p.m. May 20, at Buckeye Trail High School.
