The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash at U.S. 20 at the intersection of CR 128 in Sandusky Township.
Around 9:35 p.m. on Aug. 23, a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Elaine Reiter, 74, of Helena, was traveling southbound on CR 128. Reiter failed to yield to the stop sign and entered the intersection of U.S. 20, according to a police report.
A 2016 Ford Explorer, driven by Troy Borrelli, 17, of Avon Lake, was traveling south eastbound on U.S. 20 and struck the Town and Country. The Explorer then went off the south side of U.S. 20 and struck a guardrail. The right front passenger in the Town and Country, Alfred Reiter, 75, of Helena, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reiter was transported to Saint Vincent Mercy Hospital in Toledo.
Borrelli and his right front passenger, Nathan Shivey, 16, of Avon Lake, were transported to Fremont Promedica Hospital.
The Fremont Post was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont Police Department, Sandusky County EMS, Sandusky Township Fire Department and Pat and Son’s Towing. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
