Haslam Sports Group is selling a 37% stake in the Crew to Columbus-based Nationwide Insurance, a source has confirmed.
Both the Crew and Nationwide declined the Dispatch’s request for comment on the purchase.
According to a report from Sportico, Dee and Jimmy Haslam are still expected to be the Crew’s majority owners with a 40% stake, as Nationwide will get 30% of its stake from the Haslams and 7% from Crew minority-owners, the Edwards family (Pete and Chris Edwards).
The deal has yet to be finalized, and would need approval from the MLS Board of Governors to go through.
This comes less than two months after the Haslams and Nationwide partnered to secure ownership of the 18th National Women’s Soccer League team, set to begin playing in Columbus in 2028.
In 2021, Nationwide became the Crew’s official jersey sponsor and has been featured on each uniform since.
Along with the future NWSL team and the Crew, which the Haslams purchased in 2018, Haslam Sports Group has majority ownership of the Cleveland Browns and is a minority owner of the Milwaukee Bucks.
