Guardians score, recap vs Dodgers | Shohei Ohtani hits home run, Dodgers defeat Cleveland

CLEVELAND — The Guardians fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the most expensive roster in baseball (if the deferred money is included) for the second consecutive day via a 9-5 loss at Progressive Field.

Tanner Bibee (4-4, 3.57 ERA) took the mound for the Guardians. Dustin May (2-4, 4.09 ERA), who has electric stuff but has had his career laced with injuries, started for the Dodgers.

Tuesday’s game had a first-pitch time of just after 6:10 p.m. Here’s how the game unfolded.

Dodgers beat the Guardians

Gabriel Arias had a two-run double in the ninth, but the Guardians fell to the Dodgers, 9-5.

Max Muncy belts 3-run home run off Nic Enright

Max Muncy has broken the game open in the ninth with a three-run, no-doubt moonshot to right field off of Nic Enright that has extended the Dodgers lead to 9-3.

The Dodgers lineup is just relentless.

Andy Pages drives in run off Jakob Junis

The Guardians are running out of time and will enter the bottom half of the eighth trailing 6-3 after Andy Pages lined a single back up the middle to score a run. It didn’t help matters that Angel Martinez bobbled the routine play in center.

Martinez and then the top of the Cleveland lineup are due up.

Michael Conforto hits home run off Hunter Gaddis

Hunter Gaddis came in to relieve Tanner Bibee in the top of the sixth, and Michael Conforto quickly jumped all over him with a solo home run to center field, putting the Dodgers up 5-3.

Bibee finished the day with four earned runs on seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

Guardians, Dodgers score: Daniel Schneemann home run makes it 1-run game

With one swing, the Guardians are not only on the board, but have made it a one-run game.

With two on in the fourth, Daniel Schneemann launched a three-run home run to right field to make it 4-3. It raised Schneemann’s OPS to .805 this season.

May has had a solid outing, but he left a sinker middle-in, and Schneemann made it a costly mistake.

Gabriel Arias nearly went back-to-back with Schneemann to tie it, as he drove a ball to deep right field, but Mookie Betts caught it right at the wall.

Jose Ramirez extends hit streak to 20 games

Jose Ramirez singled in the bottom of the fourth inning to push his hit streak to 20 games, a career high. He has also now reached base safely in 24 consecutive games.

Shohei Ohtani home run extends Dodgers lead over Guardians

Shohei Ohtani did it again.

With a runner on, Ohtani blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning to push the Dodgers’ lead to 4-0. It was his second home run in as many games during this series.

As much as anyone else in baseball, Ohtani is must-watch viewing.

Dodgers take lead off Tanner Bibee with 38-pitch second inning; Guardians, Dodgers score

The Dodgers have a 2-0 lead, but if not for a nice play by Daniel Schneemann and possibly a game-saving strikeout from Tanner Bibee, it could have been much worse for the Guardians.

Bibee labored through a 38-pitch second inning. Andy Pages and Dalton Rushing both drove in runs to put L.A. up 2-0.

Schneemann, playing second today, helped Bibee out with a nice reaction on a grounder to the right side with a runner advancing to second. In a bang-bang play, Schneemann fielded the grounder, tagged out the runner and made the throw to first for the double play.

The Guardians then intentionally walked Shohei Ohtani with two outs to put runners on the corners. Mookie Betts then drew a walk, bringing up Freddie Freeman with the bases loaded.

Bibee saved the inning to a pretty severe degree by striking Freeman out to end the threat.

Tanner Bibee strikes out Shohei Ohtani looking to begin game

Well, Shohei Ohtani didn’t absolutely crush the first pitch he saw, so the Guardians are already off to a better start than in Monday’s game.

Bibee threw seven pitches to Ohtani, and eventually froze him with a fastball that actually caught quite a bit of the plate.

Bibee went on to allow a single to Freddie Freeman, but it was an otherwise quick first inning.

Below is some pregame information.

Guardians roster move: Slade Cecconi to be pushed back; Hunter Gaddis activated

Guardians starting pitcher Slade Cecconi, who was slated to start Wednesday’s game against the Dodgers, will be pushed back to after the off-day on Thursday as he deals with a right groin injury, according to manager Stephen Vogt.

How the Guardians handle Wednesday’s game is to be determined. They could potentially have a bullpen game due to the off day on Thursday.

Hunter Gaddis has also been added back to the roster in place of Joey Cantillo, who is headed to Triple-A. Cantillo will be stretched out as a starter in the minor leagues.
