A handful of central Ohio boys lacrosse teams are within sight of the state semifinals, and champions will be crowned in both divisions just days after that.
Eight area players were featured in a poll to determine the central Ohio high school boys lacrosse regular-season player of the year. All of the votes are in, and the winner is Worthington Kilbourne’s Declan Ryan.
Ryan, a senior attacker, helped maintain the Wolves’ status as a Division I, Region 3 championship contender with 69 goals, 54 assists and 31 ground balls during the regular season.
Last year’s regional runner-up, Kilbourne (17-4) faces New Albany in a regional semifinal May 27. The Wolves also went 6-0 in the OCC-Capital to win their sixth straight championship, outscoring league opponents 113-15.
“To have his production and the way that [Ryan] plays … he is a facilitator the most,” coach Brian Miller said. “If [opponents] are going to take away his shot, he can have a game full of assists. He can do the opposite, too. He can go out and get a goal at any point in time.”
Ryan easily won the poll, amassing 44.51% of the vote.
Dublin Coffman’s Shawn May was second (13.07%), followed by Kilbourne’s Luke Page (10.21%), Bexley’s Kaleb Krasnow (9.27%), Upper Arlington’s Luke Backes (8.15%), Olentangy Liberty’s Luke Mulder (7.19%) and Ben Godwin (5%) and Westerville North’s Braydon Travis (2.6%).
All of these players are candidates to make our All-Metro boys lacrosse team, which will be revealed as part of the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards. The live show is June 22 at Upper Arlington High School.
