Marlington Local Schools has made a change in its middle school in advance of the 2026-27 school year.
Greg Travis has been appointed principal of Marlington Middle School, effective at the end of the current school year. He will replace Mike Risaliti, who has decided to go back into teaching as a sixth grade science educator.
Travis has been assistant principal of Marlington High School for the past five years. Superintendent Dan Swisher said the high school has had a “steady and significant” decline in student disciplinary issues in Travis’ time in that job.
“Greg has proven himself to be a steady, insightful leader who is deeply respected by students, staff, and the community alike,” Swisher said. “His ability to translate complex data into actionable classroom strategies has already moved our district forward, and we are excited to see him bring that same expertise to the middle school level.”
In a news release, the district said Travis uses data to help make decisions. For example, as a district testing coordinator, Travis helped to implement Restart Readiness Assessments, which, the release said, ensured “that instructional paths are tailored to meet the specific needs of every learner.”
Travis earned his undergraduate degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education.
Travis and his wife of 11 years, Hillary, have two children, Noah, 8, and Makenzie, 4.
“Having spent the last five years with our high school families, I look forward to working with our younger Dukes to ensure they have the academic and behavioral foundation necessary for long-term success,” Travis said. “My goal is to maintain a safe, respected, and data-focused environment where every student can thrive.”
