This report has been updated with additional information and a corrected date.
A 41-year-old Green man has been charged with murder, rape and felonious assault, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office announced June 4.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 30, 2025, in which a woman called 911 and reported an assault to the sheriff’s office. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she received medical treatment. She died on Dec. 16 from complications from the injuries, a redacted report from the sheriff’s office states.
Her name has not been released.
Adam Richardson was arrested June 4 after a warrant was obtained and a search was conducted at his home, the news release states. Barberton Municipal Court records list his address as on Briarwood Way.
Detectives recovered electronics, illegal narcotics and cash in the search. Richardson was booked into the Summit County Jail.
The woman told the sheriff’s office that Richardson punched her in the head several times, choked and raped her. On another date, the woman “was admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke from a blood clot that traveled to her spine, leaving her paralyzed,” the sheriff’s report states.
On Dec. 16, the woman died. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide, the sheriff’s report says.
Richardson is scheduled for a hearing on June 5.
Further charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, the sheriff’s office states.
