Game On! New contract agreement means YouTube TV customers can watch OSU-Texas on Fox Sports

YouTube TV users will be able to watch the Ohio State University season-opening game against Texas after the streaming service said it reached a contractual agreement with Fox Corp.

YouTube TV announced on its X page on Aug. 28 that it reached a deal with Fox to keep the company’s content on the streaming platform. Viewers who watch the Fox Broadcast Network, Fox News, and Fox Sports, Fox Weather, and more will continue to have access to all of these channels and more — including OSU’s season opening game against Texas.

Terms of the new deal were not announced.

YouTube TV’s parent company and Fox clashed due to the former’s contract expiration date, which was scheduled for Aug. 27, USA Today previously reported. YouTube said that if it was unable to reach an agreement, Fox networks such as Sports 1, Business, News and other channels would no longer be available on the streaming service as soon as 5 p.m. ET on Aug. 27.

However, that deadline passed and the stations remained on the air. YouTube announced shortly after the deadline that it was being extended to 5p.m. Aug. 28. Then, shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 27, YouTube TV posted on X that the sides had come to a short-term extension.

The next day, YouTube TV announced the deal to keep Fox channels on its platform.

Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr said in an X post on Aug. 26 that Fox’s removal from YouTube TV would be “terrible,” referencing Saturday’s big game directly.

“Millions of Americans are relying on YouTube to resolve this dispute so they can keep watching the news and sports they want – including this week’s Big Game: Texas (at) Ohio State,” Carr said in his post. “Get a deal done, Google!”
