COLUMBUS ‒ Former Uhrichsville Mayor Mark Haney has been indicted on four criminal counts following an investigation into improper reimbursements he received, according to a press release from the Auditor of the State of Ohio.
A Tuscarawas County grand jury handed down the indictment against Haney on July 10, with two counts of tampering with records, third-degree felonies; one count of theft in office, a fourth-degree felony; and a count of accepting or receiving unlawful compensation, a first-degree misdemeanor.
The state auditor’s Special Investigations Unit launched an investigation in January 2024 after receiving a complaint alleging Haney improperly received reimbursements for meals, mileage and other purchases and that he had used city credit cards for personal purchases.
Haney served one term as mayor of Uhrichsville from 2019 to 2023, when he was unseated by the current mayor Jim Zucal. Haney was previously a city council member and president.
His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 13 in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court.
Haney did not respond to a request for comment.
