Urban Meyer has moved from the sidelines to the fairways in the time it takes to yell “Fore!”
Meyer, the former Ohio State coach who joined FOX’s pregame college football show after the Jacksonville Jaguars fired him in 2021, revealed on his “The Triple Option” podcast that he has played more golf over the past two years than he did over the previous two decades.
“I coached for 38 years. I played five times a year. Now I’m playing a hundy,” Meyer told co-host Mark Ingram.
And not just any old 100 courses. In the past three weeks, Meyer teed it up at such prestigious tracks as Pebble Beach, Cyprus Point and Olympic Club in northern California and Shinnecock Hills and National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York. He also played Old Head in Ireland and The Renaissance Club in Scotland. All are ranked in Golfweek’s top 100 courses in the United States and top 100 internationally.
“My daughter got me a little thing where you put pins in to show where you played. That bad boy is filling up here in the last two years,” Meyer said, pausing. “I just gotta get better.”
Meyer coached Ohio State from 2012 through 2018, compiling a record of 83-9 with one national championship in 2014. He went 7-0 against Michigan. His overall record is 187-32, including two national titles at Florida. His other coaching stops were at Bowling Green and Utah.
