A Franklin Township levy that would allow the township in the southwestern Columbus area to re-open a closed fire station at 2193 Frank Road appears headed for failure.
With all precincts reporting by 10:40 p.m. May 5, unofficial election results from the Franklin County Board of Elections showed that the levy was failing, with 59% of votes against and 41% in favor. That’s of 924 ballots cast.
The 15.91 mill levy, on ballots as Issue 24, would have cost property owners $557 per $100,000 of assessed value.
Without the levy, the fire station will remained closed. The township shut down the station nearly a year ago after another levy narrowly failed.
Another renewal levy of 6.89 mills passed in November 2025, but that was just enough to keep the remaining station at 4100 Sullivant Ave. operational, the township’s fire chief Bob Arnold previously told The Dispatch.
The shuttered fire station means higher response times than before that can lead to more intense property damage and a higher risk for injuries, Arnold previously said.
