Northside has now had two mass shootings this year on the same block. Nine people have been shot in the neighborhood this year compared to just six in all of 2025.
Just before 2 a.m. on May 26, four people were shot in the 4000 block of Hamilton Avenue. One is in critical condition, the others suffered less severe injuries, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.
Police called the shooting an isolated incident but have not released further details about what led to the shooting.
This mass shooting comes just three months after another shooting in February left two wounded and two dead. That incident occurred outside the Spotlight Lounge at 4023 Hamilton Ave. on Feb. 15. The owner of the building terminated the bar’s lease after the shooting.
USA TODAY defines a mass shooting as an incident where at least four people are hit with gunfire, even if there are no fatalities. A mass killing refers is an incident in which at least four people are killed.
Another man was injured in a shooting on May 17 on Spring Grove Avenue. That brings the total number of shooting victims in Northside to nine with more than seven months left in 2026.
The neighborhood is on pace to have its worst year of gun violence since at least 2010 when the Cincinnati Police Department started tracking shootings in an online database.
In the past 15 years, Northside has never had more than 12 people shot in a single year.
There have been no arrests announced from the shooting near Spotlight Lounge in February. Police have not released any suspect information in the May 26 shooting.
This was the third mass shooting in Cincinnati this year. Nine people were struck by gunfire at Riverfront Live, a club on Kellogg Avenue, in March.
In May, interim chief Adam Hennie announced the city would be doubling the number of vice officers noting the increase in violence at some liquor establishments in the city.
