The National Weather Service has extended the heat advisory covering the Greater Cincinnati region until the night of Friday, June 27.
The agency announced Wednesday that heat index values in the region were predicted to be in the upper 90s and lower 100s.
“Consecutive days of high heat and humidity can be especially hazardous as warm overnight temperatures will provide little relief,” the advisory said. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”
Forecasters also advised taking precautions when outside.
The heat wave has broken some records. At Dayton Airport, the temperature only dropped to 77 on June 25, breaking a previous record. Forecasters said other area airports also recorded near-record temperatures overnight.
Temperatures are expected to peak in the 90s until next Monday with lows in the mid-70s overnight. There is a low chance of thunderstorms until Saturday when there is an 80% chance of rain.
