Ann Ream, the director of community relations at Summit County Children Services, said that Cassandra Holtzmann “continues on her journey of healing and recovery, and SCCS appreciates the ongoing support and understanding of the community as she focuses on her health.”

Darin Kearns, the deputy director of fiscal services, was appointed to serve as interim executive director of SCCS by its Board of Trustees until Holtzmann can return, Ream said.

According to the Illinois State Police Troop 9, the Holtzmanns were involved in a three-vehicle crash that occurred the afternoon of May 26 on I-70 eastbound near milepost 111, 7 miles west of Greenup, Cumberland County. Cassandra Holtzmann, 60, was life flighted to a local hospital. Her husband, 60-year-old Joe Holtzmann, died in the crash.

An update on the investigation status of this crash was not available.
