A Columbus man faces felony charges in connection with a fatal shooting at a gas station that police allege stemmed from a robbery attempt.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted Samuel Lovejoy, 31, on charges of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault and having weapons as a convicted felon in connection with the shooting.
Police arrested Lovejoy on May 28 and took him to the Franklin County jail.
Columbus police responded at 4:55 a.m. May 11 to a shooting in the parking lot of an Eagle Fuel gas station, 3851 E. Livingston Ave. Officers found Maceo Ve Aundreas Burton, 48, inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.
Burton was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Homicide detectives obtained video of the shooting and allege they found that two males were robbing Burton when he was shot.
After reviewing the video, detectives identified Lovejoy as one of the suspects. Detectives also alleged in court documents that cell phone records place Lovejoy in the immediate area of the shooting.
