The dean of student positions at the Cambridge intermediate and primary schools have transitioned to assistant principal positions, according to a community announcement.
Nicole Earley will move from dean of students at the intermediate school to the newly-created position and middle school math and science teacher Matt Green will move to the primary school to serve as assistant principal.
Nicole Earley
“Throughout her time at CIS, Nicole has demonstrated a deep commitment to students, built strong relationships with families, and has continued to promote a positive school culture,” CIS Principal Michelle Johnston said in the announcement. “Her dedication to student success, collaborative approach, and commitment to supporting both students and staff make her an excellent fit for this position.”
A 2011 graduate of Cambridge High School, Earley earned her bachelor’s in early childhood education from Ohio University, her masters in K-6 math from Western Governor’s University and earned certification in education leadership through the American College of Education.
After teaching kindergarten for a year in Coshocton, she garnered a job at Cambridge Intermediate teaching fifth grade math. Last year, after six years in the classroom, she served as dean of students.
“I was born and raised here so I really want to help all of our youth reach their full potential and overcome whatever barriers may exist that make it challenging for them,” Earley said in the announcement. “I look forward to helping students, on a broader scale then when I was in the classroom, to reach their fullest potential.
Matt Green
The 2014 Cambridge High School graduate decided to go into teaching after a year of college. He graduated from Ohio University Zanesville with a middle childhood education degree and the credentials to teach math and science. After a year as a long-term sub, Green landed at the middle school teaching math for four years before switching to science.
While teaching, he pursued his master’s degree from Western Governor’s University and is excited about the opportunity to become an assistant principal.
“In the classroom and as administrator, making sure the kids know it’s okay not to know the answer is something I try to make them understand,” Green said. “Asking questions is all part of the process of learning. I don’t know all the answers about being an assistant principal, but that’s why I am here. I’m going to learn and I’m going to figure them out.”
Green is also looking forward to developing relationships with teachers and students as well as helping students succeed.
“Mr. Green’s deep roots in the Cambridge community and his proven track record as a dedicated seventh grade science educator and instructional leader at Cambridge Middle School make him an exceptional addition to our leadership team,” Primary Principal Kurt Ware said.
