After the Browns’ preseason loss to the Bills on Saturday, many expect the quarterback competition to reach its conclusion. Albeit with a sharp curveball thrown into things following Deshaun Watson’s post-game comments. Despite the ups and downs, it seems that Shedeur Sanders may have worked his way back into the starting role following his performance with the majority of the team’s second- and third-team players.
In the eyes of NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah, the decision on picking a starting quarterback is now a simple one.
While speaking on NFL Network, Jeremiah discussed the Browns quarterback situation, stating, “He’s (Shedeur Sanders) outplayed Deshaun Watson. And when you look at this team, where they are right now, I think of windows. This Cleveland Browns team is young and talented. . .I came into this process thinking, ‘okay, it’s easier to go from the veteran to the rookie. You start Deshaun Watson, it doesn’t go well, you pivot.’ But after going through all training camp, and then what we’ve seen in the preseason, I’ve changed on that one.”
With him leading towards starting Sanders, he also hints at what he would do if he were the Browns.
“I don’t know that there’s a home for him there, if he’s not the starter. You’re gonna eat that 41 million either way. So, in my opinion, you start Shadeur Sanders, and you end up cutting Deshaun Watson.”
