Dr. Thomas Rogers leaves Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital to lead Medina hospital

DOVER ‒ An internal search will be conducted at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital to replace Dr. Thomas Rogers, who has served as vice president and chief medical officer since 2022 following his retirement from active military service as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

Rogers will take over the same position at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital effective July 1, according to an announcement from Cleveland Clinic.

“Dr. Rogers has been an innovative and collaborative leader at Union Hospital, committed to providing the best care for our patients and growing the healthcare services that we provide in that area,” said Teri Lash-Ritter, president of Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Cleveland Clinic’s South submarket, which includes Medina and Union hospitals. “We are confident he will bring this same energy to this new role as well,” she said in the announcement.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, Rogers served as director of the DiLorenzo Pentagon Health Clinic and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital Branch Clinics in Washington, D.C., from 2017 to 2022. A board certified family physician, he was commissioned as a captain in the Medical Corps in 1993, entering the Army through the Health Professions Scholarship Program and Army ROTC.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from John Carroll University in Cleveland, where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate, and earned a medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Family Medicine at DeWitt Army Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Va., from 1993-96.

Rogers spent much of his childhood in Stark County and is a graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School.

He replaces Dr. Richard Shewbridge, who will step down after eight years leading the Medina hospital to return part time to his endocrinology practice at Medina Hospital.
