PLYMOUTH — Four area Division III wrestlers brought home sectional championships on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Bucyrus freshman Camden Redmon won the 126-pound sectional championship with a 7-3 decision in the final. He went 3-0 with two pins in his first two matches.
Plymouth senior Ben Trimmer won the 144-pound championship with a 7-5 decision in the final. He went 3-0 with a 2:41 pin in his first match and a 19-2 win in the semifinals before outlasting Western Reserve’s Landen Barnhart in the championship.
Crestview’s Jack Stephens won the 175-pound championship with a 3:20 pin in the final. He went 2-0 after earning byes into the semifinals. He pinned both of his opponents on his way to the championship.
South Central’s Greyson Fisher won the 157-pound championship with an 18-1 tech fall in the final. He went 3-0 outscoring his opponents by a combined 53-6.
Several wrestlers advanced to the district tournament with Top 4 finishes. Willard’s Jose Figueroa was second and Crestview’s Colson Lutz was fourth at 106 while South Central’s Wyatt Martin was second and Bucyrus’ James Wills was fourth at 113, Plymouth’s Thomas Winegardner was third and Crestview’s Jayce Hinton was fourth at 120, Crestview’s Dylan Burge was third and Willard’s Jackson Steinmetz was fourth at 132, Willard’s Luke Slone was second and Crestview’s Brayden Parrigan was third at 138, South Central’s Jaxson Strickland was third and Bucyrus’ Grady Weber was fourth at 144, New London’s David Hostetler was fourth at 150, Willard’s Logan Williams was third at 157, New London’s Ethan Koch and Crestview’s Drake Foster was fourth at 165, Plymouth’s Isaiah Miller was second and Bucyrus’ Isaac Makeever was fourth at 175, New London’s Hunter Chandley was second and Buckeye Central’s Austin Bogner was fourth at 190, Bucyrus’ Hayden Butcher, who earned his 100th career win in the tournament, was second, Crestview’s Bronson Rose was third and New London’s Keith Squire was fourth at 215 and Bucyrus’ Hayden Ginn was fourth at 285.
Girls wrestling sectional tournament
Shelby’s Hope Timko made history as the first sectional champion in Shelby girls wrestling history on Friday night. She won the 115-pound weight class by going 4-0 with four pins, all in 38 seconds or less, including a 36-second pin in the final.
Madison’s Estella Koppert-Smith won the 130-pound sectional championship with four pins in the tournament including a 3:10 pin in the championship match.
Crestview’s Naomi Gearheart won the 145-pound sectional championship with three pins including a 1:51 pin in the championship match. She became a three-time sectional champion by going 3-0 with three pins. She is now 104-13 in her career with 90 pins.
New London’s Ava Downs was second and Madison’s Chloe Gilbert took third at 100 pounds and will move on to the district tournament while Ashland’s Rowan Varnes was third at 110, Hadleigh Hutcheson was fourth at 110, Ashland’s Amelia Hunt was fifth and Lexington’s Amelia Bender was sixth at 115 pounds, Ashland’s Gracen Brockett was third at 120 pounds, Ashland’s Isla McFrederick was fourth at 140 pounds, Ontario’s Lilly Gray was third at 145 pounds, Madison’s Haylie Hutcheson was fourth and Ontario’s Raelynn Amerine was sixth at 155 pounds, Madison’s Alaina Ash was fifth at 170 pounds, Madison’s Anna Blanton was second at 190 pounds and New London’s Gwyneth Voltz was third at 235 pounds.
