The Mega Millions jackpot rose to $423 million for the Friday, Sept. 19 drawing, after no one matched the winning numbers in the drawing on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
If a lucky ticket holder matches all six numbers in the Mega Millions lottery numbers, they will have the option of a one-time cash payment of $196.5 million.
The next jackpot winner would mark the fifth Mega Millions winner in 2025. The highest jackpot winner this year came on June 27, when a Virginia ticket holder won a $348 million jackpot.
On April 18, a player right here in Ohio took home a $112 million jackpot. Other winners include a ticket holder in Illinois who won $344 million on March 25 and another on Jan. 17 for $113 million.

How to play the Mega Millions
To play the Mega Millions, all you have to do is buy a ticket. You can do this at several locations, including your local convenience store, gas station or even grocery store. In some states, you can buy Mega Millions tickets online.
Once you have your ticket, you need to pick six numbers. Five of them will be white balls with numbers from 1 to 70. The gold Mega Ball ranges from 1 to 24. You can ask for a randomly generated “Quick Pick” or an ”Easy Pick.”
Mega Millions tickets have a built-in multiplier that increases non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five, or 10 times.

What are the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot?
All non-jackpot wins can increase based on the multiplier amount ranging from 2X to 10X times the listed prize amount. The overall odds of winning a prize is 1 in 23.07.
Is the multiplier automatic when you play Mega Millions?
Yes. The multiplier is automatically applied to every wager. The multipliers come in 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10, so that means if a player matches all five white balls in the Mega Millions, they could win up to $10 million.
The multiplier does not count for the jackpot.
Where can you play Mega Millions?
Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, including Ohio, along with Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. If you buy a winning Mega Millions ticket outside of Ohio, you cannot redeem it in the Buckeye State.
