COSHOCTON — A community fundraiser for an organization whose building needs infrastructure updates to support future mental health services is returning for the third year.
Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices’ Wings of Wellness 5K run and walk will take place at 9 a.m. May 2 on the Coshocton Court Square.
Proceeds will benefit the organization’s capital campaign, Preserving Hope: The Future of Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices, according to a community announcement. It is working to raise $1 million in community donations and grant support. This will be used to provide matching funds for a $1 million state capital grant, for a total of $2 million.
The current facility at 610 Walnut St. dates back to 1906 and has been home to CBHC for decades. Significant needed updates include roofing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. The fundraising campaign is focusing on preserving and restoring the building while improving accessibility and preparing the space for future community use, according to the announcement.
“This is our third year hosting the Wings of Wellness 5K and our goal is to create an encouraging, family-friendly event that brings our community together while raising vital funds to support our services and ensure our building serves the community for generations to come,” Megan Daugherty, clinical director of CBHC, said in the announcement.
CBHC has provided mental health, substance abuse treatment, medication management and youth services to individuals and families for more than 50 years. In 2025, it served 1,168 individuals, including 463 children and adolescents. As a non-profit organization, CBHC relies heavily on grants, community support and fundraising efforts to sustain services, receiving only limited public funding.
Registration is $25 and is available in advance online and on race day with check-in starting at 8 a.m. There will also be inflatables, face painting and other children’s activities from 9 to 11 a.m. Register online at runsignup.com/Race/OH/Coshocton/WingsofWellness5K
