After a boatload of speculation, rumors, and infighting between two fanbases, five-star 2027 running back David Gabriel Georges announced his college choice on Wednesday, and it did not go the way of Ohio State.
The Buckeyes have won a lot of high-profile recruiting battles in the recent past, and this one seemed to be in the scarlet and gray column for a long time before Tennessee came on late to lure the talents of the country’s No. 2 running back and 10th overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
It’s a big loss for Ohio State, and one that the coaching staff put almost all its effort into for the 2027 class. All indications point to Gabriel Georges having a great relationship with running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, but that wasn’t enough to seal the deal. It’s not clear exactly how much money played a part, but reports point to a very large name, image and likeness package coming out of Knoxville to go along with a good relationship with the overall in-state coaching staff. Gabriel Georges, though originally from Canada, plays his high school ball for the Baylor School in Chattanooga.
By missing out on Gabriel Georges, the Ohio State coaching staff will now need to pivot and likely try to find a back for this class, and as soon as those names and efforts become available, we’ll follow along and bring it to you.
