Covington Catholic’s boys basketball team continues to set milestones as the Colonels get ready for the postseason.
CovCath knocked off Moeller 70-58 Feb. 17 to improve to 26-1 on the season.

Head coach Jake Thelen, in his second season at CovCath, improved to 50-10 overall, becoming the fastest head coach in program history to reach 50 wins.
Moeller dropped to 16-4 after winning the Greater Catholic League-South with a 50-33 win over St. Xavier Feb. 13. CovCath was able to generate offense against a Moeller defense that allows only 44 points per game for the year. The Colonels scored 28 points in the second quarter to lead by 11 at halftime.
The Crusaders had allowed 32 points per game in a four-game winning streak. Their previous high conceded this season was 61 in a win over a South Carolina team. They had given up more than 50 points only three other times.
The 12-point margin is CovCath’s second-smallest against any opponent this season, and the closest win over any Greater Cincinnati team.
Moeller limited CovCath’s leading scorer, Athens McGillis, to 14 points, but he dished out 10 assists and had six rebounds.
Braeden Myrick led CovCath with 28 points, including five 3-pointers. Senior post Donovan Bradshaw had 16 points. Senior guard Cash Harney didn’t score but dished out seven assists, as the Colonels had 25 assists on 29 field goals, shooting 58% from the floor. Dylan Courtney came up big off the bench, scoring 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
CovCath forced 14 turnovers from a Moeller team that committed only six against St. Xavier.
CovCath could stake a claim to an unofficial title in the GCL-South after beating St. Xavier by 17 in January.
CovCath, No. 1 in the Kentucky state media poll, travels to No. 4 Madison Central in Richmond Feb. 20 to end the regular season.
