The Crew game against One Knoxville SC on April 29 in the U.S. Open Cup is not airing on the Crew’s usual broadcast home.
The Crew reached this game by beating the Richmond Kickers, a USL League One team, April 15 on the road in the Round of 32. Crew midfielder Hugo Picard scored twice and forward Jamal Thiare picked up a goal in the 3-0 victory.
Knoxville, a USL League One team, is one of three teams from the USL to advance to the Round of 16 of the tournament. In the Round of 32, MLS team D.C. United fell to Knoxville in penalties. Each club made its first five penalty shots, but Knoxville goalie Jonathan Burke saved D.C.’s sixth shot, and forward Kyle Linhares made the game-winning goal right after.
The Crew are competing in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time since 2023. U.S. Soccer changed the number of MLS teams allowed to participate from eight to 16 in 2025, but the Crew opted against playing after already participating in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
The Crew have competed in 24 U.S. Open Cups, with their 2002 U.S. Open Cup title being the organization’s first major championship.
