Mike Gansey will leave his job as Cavaliers general manager to become the new Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations, ESPN first reported on Friday, May 29.
Gansey is a native of Olmsted Falls who joined the Cavs organization in 2011 and ascended to GM in February 2022.
Gansey, 43, served as a right-hand man to Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman, helping with scouting and player personnel decisions. Gansey was named Cavs assistant GM in July 2017 before becoming GM less than five years later.
Gansey joined the Cavs as a basketball operations seasonal assistant. One of his promotions made him GM of the Cleveland Charge, the NBA G League affiliate of the Cavs. He earned the 2016-17 NBA G League Executive of the Year award.
Gansey played college basketball at West Virginia. He helped the Mountaineers reach the Elite Eight as a junior and the Sweet 16 as a senior. Later, he played professionally overseas for three seasons and in the NBA G League for two seasons.
