CHILLICOTHE — While everyone in Chillicothe knows Carl’s Townhouse for whipping up pancakes, burgers, and mac and cheese bites, they might not know that they do not just serve food, but serve the community too.
Owner Mark Trainer and his wife, Tracy, have owned Carl’s since 2015 and Mark said the two wanted to own a business in the area in order to be more involved in the community.
“So doing this, not only allows us to do that, it’s a pretty special restaurant,” Trainer said. “We do a lot with the schools in the area, we will donate just about anything to a school, whether it’s band, cheerleading, basketball or football. We will give them something, as long as they have a legitimate need.”
Trainer said he and his wife support things in the community, not just schools.
“We don’t just limit it to the schools, but we’re more apt to give for the students and kids,” Trainer said. “Kids are our future.”
Carl’s is a busy restaurant and is usually filled with the hustle and bustle of those from Chillicothe or even those from out of town.
“It’s every weekend, we seem to meet new people that come off of the highway,” Trainer said. “They’re on the way to the beach, or wherever we’re going to or coming from and we think that’s pretty cool.”
Trainer said he’d be nowhere without his staff.
“They’re really hard workers,” Trainer said. “Our cooks are amazing, our servers hustle, and they work hard. Our customers recognize that and take care of them.”
Carl’s Townhouse opened in 1939 under the name NCL or Nice Clean Lunch.
