CANTON ‒ A woman narrowly escaped a potential catastrophe the morning of Aug. 20 when a tree fell on her house at 1319 Woodland Ave. NW, causing substantial damage.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Ohman said homeowner Valerie Pryor got out of bed a few minutes before the tree landed above the bedroom. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called at 8:16 a.m.
The American Red Cross was called to assist.
Caution tape surrounded the property after the incident.
Senior city code enforcement officer Rick Hoffman said an order will be posted providing notice that the two-story property is unsafe. He said on the morning of Aug. 20 that it was too soon to know whether the house can be repaired or must be razed.
