Buckeye Lake shooting suspect pleads not guilty to murder in July 11 karaoke night death

The Newark man accused of fatally shooting a Mount Vernon man July 11 during a karaoke night at a Buckeye Lake bar has pleaded not guilty.

Richard A. Lindgren, 59, faces one count of aggravated murder, two counts of murder and one count each of felonious assault and tampering with evidence, court records show. He pleaded not guilty July 29 in Licking County Common Pleas Court.

Police allege in court documents that Lindgren shot and killed Ben Hawk from behind July 11 at Louie’s Corner House while the latter was singing karaoke. Deputies found Hawk dead at the scene, and police arrested Lindgren on suspicion of murder in South Carolina a day later.

Authorities extradited him back to Licking County and booked him July 15 into the Licking County jail, where he remained July 29 on a $5 million bond.

A trial has been scheduled for Oct. 6, court records show.

Hawk was 42. Friends and family are remembering him and have been honoring his memory during karaoke nights in recent weeks. The bar has donated a portion of its sales from some of the nights to Hawk’s family.

A grand jury indicted Lindgren July 23 on the charges.
