Browns' rookie WR reminding everyone of his unlimited potential

The story around Cleveland’s first-round draft pick, KC Concepcion, is that he has a bad case of the drops. While that may be true in some circumstances, what is also true with him is what we saw from Thursday’s OTA practice in Berea.

On an in-breaking route across the middle of the field on the goalline, quarterback Deshaun Watson ripped one across the middle to Concepcion. In not-so-surprising fashion, Watson’s throw was high and behind the flying Concepcion, but it didn’t matter.

While running at full speed, Concepcion lept into the air, reached all the way behind him, and hauled in the Watson fastball while taking a huge hit. It was a play that makes anyone watching raise their eyebrows and nod their head in approval.

If this type of play is on the flipside of a couple of drops here and there, I think a lot of Browns fans would sign up for that. Furthermore, if Concepcion wants to be the best wide receiver in this class and prove that the 23 picks in front of him were a mistake, he would keep the spectacular catches and ditch the drops altogether.

It is these types of catches that led Concepcion to have over 2,000 yards receiving and 25 touchdowns in his career at both Texas A&M and NC State. It’s also those types of catches that have him in conversations for being the best wide receiver in this draft class altogether.

Beggars can’t be choosers in this scenario, but Browns fans certainly can get behind the obvious competitiveness and hustle that the young rookie is showing. It has been far too long since the Browns had a competent wide receiver room, and it feels like they have finally found something with the youngsters Concepcion and Boston.

A good result of this room is that those two become the staples of the position over the next five seasons, but a great result is that they become the staples of the room and class while raising the level of Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman along the way.

Again, that might be a fairytale world, but nonetheless, Browns fans are no strangers to dreaming. What they don’t have to dream about is spectacular catches from their first-round draft pick. He showed that he has that in his tool bag, and he can only continue to go up from there.
